Stand in front of a mirror. With your eyes level move only your head to the right. Did you notice your entire spine and pelvis move? This is not a normal posture. But it does become a ‘normal’ abnormal posture for many people. The position of your head relative to the top of spine is extremely important to your overall function. This area is called the upper cervical complex (Atlas & Axis related to the head). Correcting misalignments of the upper cervical complex has become my chiropractic focus.
The upper cervical complex is a unique joint complex protecting very sensitive parts of the nervous system namely the brain stem and the spinal cord with its corresponding nerve roots. Small misalignments of the joint complex can have far reaching effects. To effectively correct this area there needs to be precision analysis along with gentle adjusting. The technique is driven by NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association), which uses precision x-ray, a unique table and postural analysis.
By analyzing 3 precise upper cervical x-rays I will be able to place the patient on the headpiece of the table and using very gentle pressure, correct the misalignment using a direction gained from the x-rays. There will be no ‘popping’ or twisting. The adjustment is extremely gentle, in fact underwhelming most often. The effects are often just the opposite.
The crux of this chiropractic technique is to assure proper alignment of your spine, to take any abnormal pressure off the spine & brain stem, allowing proper movement, posture and body function.
