Free Showing of Resilience
NorthLakes Community Clinic – Birchwood is excited to partner with the Birchwood School district to offer a free community showing of the film Resilience. The public showing will be Tuesday, March 5 at 6 pm at Birchwood School District Commons. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
“Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope” explores the biological impact caused by abuse and neglect, also known as toxic stress, during childhood. It also documents efforts to combat the negative impacts of toxic stress through innovative solutions to help protect children from the long-term effects of toxic stress. Afterwards, NorthLakes Community Clinic CEO Reba Rice will lead a panel discussion with Birchwood Superintendent Diane Johnson, Birchwood Guidance Counselor Miranda Howard and Tamilyn White, Behavioral Health Therapist at NorthLakes Community Clinic – Hayward.
Diane Johnson, Superintendent of Birchwood Schools, says this collaboration is another opportunity to educate the community on the impact Adverse Childhood Experiences may have on our community. “Birchwood staff members viewed this video in August and were captivated by the biology behind the link to stress and adverse childhood experiences. Everyone will walk away from this event with a better understanding of themselves and those around them.”
