For the wheelchair bound, simply accessing a dental chair can be extremely challenging and prevents many from seeking care.
NorthLakes Community Clinic is a safety-net for Turtle Lake and surrounding area’s most vulnerable populations; accepting dental patients with Medicaid and offering sliding-fee discounts and payment plan options. In its current location on Maple Street, they lacked the space to house a wheelchair operatory to care for dental patients. However, the construction of its new clinic on 125ThAvenue will include a wheelchair-accessible operatory with a wheelchair lift. Due to the additional expense they have been asking community partners to help NorthLakes serve this region’s need. One of its newest donors is The Lions Club of Turtle Lake.
NorthLakes received a 1:1 matching (every dollar raised, Delta Dental matches up to $50,000) grant from Delta Dental towards this wheelchair operatory, which enabled the Turtle Lake Lion’s Club generous donation to be doubled. Recently Delta Dental extended the deadline for this match to December 31, 2018. NorthLakes is grateful for the other donations received so far from the Turtle Lake PTSA, Christopher Reeves Foundation, David Bounk, Betty Rogers, Polk Burnett Electric. NorthLakes Community Clinic still needs the community’s help. If you or your company would like to contribute toward this project, please text or call Madelaine Rekemeyer, NorthLakes Development Director, at 651-792-5534.
